Privacy, claiming and sharing
Your agent hands you a link to an explainer of your own code. Who else can open it? Every explainer has an owner and a visibility level, and they matter most for the ones created outside Scrimba (from ChatGPT or a coding agent), so here is the full picture.
Visibility levels
| Level | Who can watch |
|---|---|
| Public | Everyone. The explainer can be listed and found. |
| Unlisted | Anyone with the link. Not listed or searchable anywhere. |
| Private | Only you (and people you choose). |
Explainers you create on Scrimba are yours from the start, and you set their visibility on the explainer page.
Claiming
Explainers created outside Scrimba don't belong to a Scrimba account yet:
- ChatGPT explainers are unlisted by default. The link works immediately, for you and anyone you send it to. If you've connected your Scrimba account in ChatGPT, the explainer is saved to your account as it's created, so there's nothing to claim.
- Explainers from the MCP server are private by default. The creation link from your agent carries a claim token (
?claim=...in the URL): opening it and signing in claims the explainer. - Explainers from the agent plugin and CI endpoint are unlisted by default, so a link posted on a pull request works for everyone who reads it.
Claiming an explainer makes it yours: it appears in your Scrimba account, you can rewatch it any time without keeping the original link, and you control its visibility from then on. Sign in when you open a fresh explainer and click Save to profile at the top of the player.
Until it's claimed, nobody can export it as a video.
Claiming adds the explainer to your account, so it draws on your plan's allowance: five on a free account, or 100 a month on Pro. Creating the explainer in the first place is free, however many an agent makes for you. See Plans and pricing.
A private explainer asks you to sign in before it plays because only its owner can watch it, and claiming makes you the owner. Narration and pictures are generated when somebody first watches, claimed or not.
Explainers owned by a workspace
An explainer can belong to a workspace instead of one person. If you're in a workspace, Move to workspace in the player's cog icon menu moves an explainer you made into it, or back to your own account. Moving a playlist moves all of its lessons.
Every member of the workspace can then edit the explainer, regenerate its narration, and change its language and voice. Only the person who made it and the workspace admins can delete it, move it, change its visibility or export it as a video.
The free edit limit follows the plan of the person who made the explainer, whoever edits it. A member who hits it sees This explainer has used its free edits. Its creator can upgrade to Pro for unlimited edits. See Plans and pricing.
Sharing
Sharing an explainer is sharing its URL. Set it to unlisted to share with specific people, or public to share with everyone. If you own the explainer, you can change the level at any time from the explainer page.
