Choosing visibility up front
When you're signed in, the box where you describe a new explainer has a visibility picker next to the Explain button. Set it before you create the explainer, and the explainer starts out with that visibility, so there's nothing to change on the explainer page afterwards.
The options
| Option | Who can watch |
|---|---|
| Public | Everyone. |
| Unlisted | Anyone with the link. Not searchable or listed publicly. |
| Private | Only people you choose to share it with. |
The picker starts on Public for each new explainer.
If you plan to export the explainer as a video, choose Public or Unlisted: private explainers can't be exported.
Playlists
The picker works for playlists too. Every lesson in the playlist gets the visibility you picked, so a private playlist doesn't end up with public lessons.
When you're signed out
There's no picker when you're signed out. Explainers you create without an account are always Unlisted.
Changing it later
What you pick is only the starting point. You can change an explainer you made at any time afterwards, by right-clicking it or from the cog icon menu in the player. See Privacy, claiming and sharing.
