Limits and plans
Your plan sets how many explainers you can add to your account, whether you create them on Scrimba or claim them from a tool that made them elsewhere. Watching explainers is free and unlimited either way.
Free accounts
A free account gets ten explainers. It's a one-off allowance for the life of the account, not a monthly one, so it doesn't renew.
Pro
Pro raises that to 100 explainers a month, renewing at the start of each monthly period.
What counts
Both ways of getting an explainer draw on the same allowance:
- Creating one on Scrimba, on scrimba.com/explain or from inside a scrim.
- Asking a follow-up or going deeper, since each of those makes a brand-new explainer of its own.
- Claiming one that a connected tool made for you. See Privacy, claiming and sharing.
Once an explainer is in your account, using it costs nothing further. You can redo its slides, regenerate its narration, and export and download it as often as you like.
Drafts from a connected tool are free
Creating a draft through ChatGPT or Codex, Claude Code, the MCP server or the agent plugin and CI endpoint doesn't count, however many you make. The connected tool writes the lesson itself, so Scrimba runs no generation until someone claims the explainer.
The allowance applies when you claim one. So an agent can build you as many drafts as you like, and the ten or the hundred is the number you keep.
Watch later is separate
Adding an explainer to Watch later is a bookmark, not a copy. It doesn't put the explainer in your account and doesn't count towards your allowance, so the list can hold as many as you like.
Without an account
If you aren't signed in, you get one free explainer. It covers either creating one on scrimba.com/explain or claiming an unlisted draft, such as one made in ChatGPT, not both. After that, Scrimba asks you to sign in to create more.

Explaining a scrim always needs an account, so it doesn't use this free explainer.
